Debut Album Crosses Musical Genres and Demonstrates Emotional Range: Ari Melinger-Cohen’s Songs and Verse are Thoroughly Engaging
Boulder, CO – “Feathered Tides,” an album 5-years in the making, is the immensely entertaining debut album of Boulder musician and producer Ari Melinger-Cohen. From cut to cut the listener travels across musical genres and wide-ranging poetic lyrics.
Like his music, Melinger-Cohen, who hails from the Washington, D.C. metro area, has traveled a unique path – from graduate studies at the University of California at Berkeley and a promising career in geophysics to musical explorations in Australia, New Zealand and throughout Europe. The songs on “Feathered Tides” incorporate those musical wanderings along with his interest in the natural world and his survivalist treks.
Introduced to a sold-out venue at Roots Music Project, Boulder, “Feathered Tides” is garnering positive reviews and significant attention. According to Nagamag, Melinger-Cohen’s song “Shine On” is a “musical masterpiece.” Other songs featured on “Feathered Tides” are called “catchy rock melodies with very driving rhythmic force.”
“Feathered Tides” is crafted with exquisite attention to detail, arrangement, and sound quality. “Get Out Alone” and “Hard Won Mountain” are nature-inspired journeys with Southern Rock and New Orleans Funk origins. Time travel with “Is It So” and “Another Song” to the golden age of Bossa Nova and 1940s Club Jazz. Indie Rock ballads, “Only Love” and “The Ocean Sand” navigate finding and losing love. The stand-out “Spark the Fire” has a 1970’s Jazz-Funk-Rock flavor, a la Steely Dan. “Loving Heart” is a soulful Americana reflection of what really counts at the end of the day. “Ipaima” stands alone. It is Melinger-Cohen’s 12-minute psychedelic trip of evolving musical themes from Spaghetti Westerns to traditional world music to Train Beat, and Pink Floyd.
Melinger-Cohen produced and mixed the songs on “Feathered Tides” at his own Tone Mountain Studio. The album is available in full on most major music streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Tidal.
